Tell us a little bit about the brand and it's founding. When was the brand founded and what principles drive the brand forward? What makes Kjus special?
The company originates from an idea by Swiss entrepreneur Didi Serena and Olympic ski champion Lasse Kjus. The two created the first two-way-stretch ski pants. Their functional garments shook up the market, setting new standards of performance along the way. When we launched KJUS in the year 2000, we were driven by our founders’ tireless quest to turn the industry on its head with innovative ski wear that would rewrite the rule book. We have stayed true to this dedication ever since. Now crafting not only the most technologically advanced ski wear on the market, but also intelligent golf garments and premium collections for active people on the move, we have infused each product from our ever-growing range with our desire to prove that efficient sportswear can be both waterproof and breathable; lightweight and windproof; high-stretch and durable. It is not just the technical prowess of KJUS clothing that has captured the sports world. It is our passion for what we do that continuously drives our quest for excellence. Developed by dedicated sports experts, our award-winning collections are tested by professional athletes. Whether on the ski slopes, on the golf course or in daily life, KJUS has won the reputation as the trusted outerwear brand worn by a like-minded community of avid sports people. It is our honor to give Olympic medalists, world champions and sports enthusiasts the confidence to experience uncompromising moments outdoors, whatever the weather or their surroundings.
Kjus was founded on golf and winter apparel- what drove the decision to expand into apparel as well?
Our collection of technical garments for the outdoors and everyday use was crafted around the same principles as our KJUS Ski and Golf lines, offering lightweight weather protection, superior comfort and modern styling. Whether in the city or in nature, in cold, wet conditions or warm temperatures, the KJUS Collection enables sports people and other enthusiasts of the great outdoors to brave the elements. We pride ourselves in providing our wearers the ultimate experience of their thrilling surroundings.
From Thermocore to 3D technology and Airtastic, Kjus is constantly at the forefront of fabric innovation. Can you tell us a little bit about the technologies used in the collection and what makes them special?
At KJUS, all we do is built around one principle: to craft simply the best product possible. This means we are absolutely uncompromising when it comes to our material. As we usually don’t find fabrics, insulation etc. on the market that meet our requirements and standard, we develop most technology and material ourselves. All our materials are full stretch, to allow for unrestricted freedom of movement, and breathable. We also look for benefits like moisture management, compression, cooling etc..
This year we are especially proud of Freelite, the first fully knitted ultra-stretch ski jacket. It is based on the warp knit technology that only we use in this context. With Freelite, we managed to make a knitted jacket fully waterproof, yet breathable. It is very light and will keep you very warm. Above all it is twice as stretchable as “normal” woven jackets.
Some of the best athletes in the world rely on Kjus for their winter and golf apparel- can you tell us a little bit about a couple of the sportsmen you work with?
We are proud that many athletes rely on KJUS. In golf we have just teamed up with Charl Schwartzel last season, one of the best players worldwide. We also partner with famous golfer Justin Leonard in the US and Max Kieffer in Europe. Caroline Martens is one of our female KJUS golf athletes too. We share our outerwear with many athletes in the ski and golf industry. It is not surprising to see KJUS product on tour players or in downhill competitions.
How, if at all, has Kjus been effected by the Ath-leisure trend?
KJUS’ Lifestyle collection is designed to help consumers feel comfortable and protected from the elements no matter where they are or what the weather may bring. Whether in the city or in nature, in cold, wet conditions or warm temperatures, the KJUS Lifestyle Collection enables sports people and other enthusiasts of the great outdoors to brave the elements. We pride ourselves in providing our wearers the ultimate experience of their thrilling surroundings while looking stylish.
What's next for the brand? We'd love to hear about anything you have coming down the pipeline you'd like to share with potential buyers!
We are currently looking into possibilities to use the Freelite technology in many more ways. We think freelite will bring the industry to new levels.
